Does Your Business Use Recyled Packaging?

Packaging materials account for a third of all industrial waste. But the good news is that there are plenty of things your business can do to ensure you minimise packaging which ends up in landfill.

For example, non-confidential paper shreds can be used to fill packages you send in the post. And you can avoid buying new cardboard boxes by reusing and recycling the ones you receive yourself. Or insist that your company only uses boxes made up of at least 10% recycled paper.

From plastic bubble wrap to shopping bags, make sure your businesses uses as much Recycled packaging as it can.

How to get rid of ants

Although not as upsetting as other unwelcome visitors like wasps and cockroaches, the presence of ants is still a major nuisance in homes and businesses. If you have a nest in or around the property, youll need to deal with it quickly and effectively.
The best way to get rid of ants is to demolish the nest or to kill the inhabitants. If its located in the garden, a kettle-full of boiling water can be used, although theres no guarantee it will eradicate the whole problem.
There are commercial ant powders available in hardware stores and on the web. They are extremely effective and relatively cheap. A quick spray in the nest and along their regular pathways is usually all you need.

Increasing customer loyalty through gift wrap

In the cut-throat world of retail, where many businesses don’t survive beyond their first 12 months, it is important to differentiate yourself from the competition.

One of the ways to do this is to increase customer loyalty through making your customers feel special – and Gift wrapping sales is one way to do this.

A good example of this is the hairdressers, where a member of staff takes your coat for you and offers you a tea or coffee. As a customer, you feel special and you feel a certain amount of loyalty to the business before they’ve even cut your hair.

These hairdressers will call themselves stylists or salons to differentiate from the run-of-the mill hairdressers which offer just a hair cut!

When it comes to retail, customer loyalty is more difficult. Unless you sell foods and other perishable goods, there is no reason for a customer to offer you repeat business. So you have to convince them that they are special to you.

Asking a customer if they want an item gift wrapped is one approach, but the customer may feel embarrassed, say no, and not return to your shop because you made them feel uncomfortable. So automatically wrapping sales could be the way forward.

Using a gift wrap such as tissue paper allows you to wrap a gift without it looking like an extravagance. Using coordinating tape to seal the paper and adding a bow in real ribbon (as opposed to shiny wrapping ribbon) or rustic effect string gives an effortless feel.

When bought in bulk, tissue paper, tape and string do not increase overheads significantly and make your customers feel special – increasing their loyalty to your shop.

Self seal bags and envelopes

With the long hours we work in the UK, today’s employment culture is all about saving a few precious minutes wherever you can so you can escape just that little bit earlier – and that includes in every day tasks in the post room.

People doing task-driven jobs are probably the most time aware of all employees, as their day isn’t truly finished until that day’s jobs are done – even when they’ve worked their hours.

If posting 1,000 letters or 500 marketing folders is the last task of the day, you want to make sure it takes up as little time over your working hours as possible. And this is where Self seal bags and envelopes make all the difference.

Putting a marketing pack in a postage bag and sealing it without having to scrabble round for tape and scissors saves as much time as pre-printed address labels.

Folding a letter, putting it into a DL sized envelope and sealing it without having to use a damp sponge saves as much time as using an windowed envelope so the address doesn’t have to be rewritten.

Buy bubble wrap in rolls

bubble wrap rollsWhen buying business supplies, it makes sense to buy in bulk. This is the case, too, with any after sales packaging your business might require.

If you run a retail business that sells breakable items, having supplies such as bubble wrap available presents your business as a professional outlet to your customers.

Not only can you buy bubble wrap in rolls, but it is also possible to buy a bubble wrap dispenser, enabling you to have it on show behind the counter without it making your shop look scruffy.

Bubble wrap not only protects the item, but it stops it from being completely obscured, unlike tissue paper, allowing you to offer gift wrapping as an additional service.

Whether you offer this service as a free extra or charge a small amount for it will depend on the type of retail establishment you run, the cost of the average item you sell, and the type of customers which frequent your shop.
