Fanta give away recycled “bottle bags”

Fanta have developed a “Fantastic Bag”, a reusable shopping bag which is made from recycled plastic bottles. The bag was available from Tesco superstores, and was intended to boost awareness of National Recycling Week.

The British design partnership Antoni and Alison created graphics for the bottle bags, which can be folded and packed away into a smaller bag when they are not being used.

The bags are made from a material known as Greenspun, and each one is made from two recycled 500ml plastic bottles.

Antoni Burakowski of Antoni and Alison remarked, “We love the idea of a beautiful free gift that combines good design and good ethics”.

Fanta is manufactured by Coca-Cola, and the bag initiative is part of the company’s drive to ensure that 25% of all the plastic used in its plastic bottles is recycled.

Catherine Sleight, Marketing Director of Coca-Cola Great Britain, stated: “Working with Antoni and Alison has allowed us to create a beautiful and practical bag out of recycled plastic that really helps our customers to do their bit to be greener.”

The bags were available to shoppers at Tesco who purchased two-litre bottles of Fanta or Fanta fruit Twist.

Learn to recycle your IBM ThinkPad battery

My IBM ThinkPad laptop battery recently expired, and so I bought a new one. The trouble was I was then stuck with a defunct battery that I did not know what to do with. I just didn’t want to throw it away

Then a friend suggested I could recycle it. Recycling had never even entered my head but when I looked into it I found there were several ways we can do our bit for the environment.

I would suggest you firstly check out the manufacturers website, as many now offer a free recycling service. Some council run domestic waste services will also dispose of it for you but this kind of provision is not offered everywhere. In the end I ended up taking mine back to the shop where I bought it and they gladly took the battery away for me.
